Chapter Philanthropy

Here is a clip from Kappa Karaoke, Gamma Iota's annual philanthropy event. This is a feature clip of Alpha Omicron Pi's routine for the event. Kappa Karaoke is the most widely attended Greek Philanthropy event at Washington University and it supports our amazing cause: Reading Is Fundamental. The money we raise goes towards providing books for children in poverty so that we can help reduce the rates of illiteracy in the US. My name is Ashlyn Elftmann, and I am the Philanthropy Chair for Gamma Iota!

This past semester, the Gamma Iota Chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma raised over $5,000 for both Reading Is Fundamental and the Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation! This was made possible through our annual philanthropy event Kappa Karaoke followed by a week of different fundraising activities. Kappa Karaoke is the largest and most widely attended philanthropy event on campus, so I spent the majority of the first part of this semester organizing and raising awareness for our philanthropy event. I am proud to say we had over one thousand people in both Greek and non-Greek life attend the event, and it seemed like everyone had a really great time!

Other than our own philanthropy event, I spent a lot of time talking to and working with other philanthropy chairs on campus, encouraging members of my chapter to attend their events in order to help out their philanthropies as well. Thanks to kore groups, we have had increased attendance at other fraternity/sorority philanthropies on campus, and I could not be happier with how involved Kappa Kappa Gamma has been on campus this semester.
